Fire near corner of Grace and Meadow

Morning fire quickly handled by Richmond Fire Department.

I was walking along Grace street earlier today and come along this scene.

Around 9:20 AM smoke was seen coming out of a grey house near the corner of Grace and Meadow on the 1800 block of W. Grace. Neighbor were already on the phone with 911.

The fire department was called and quickly 4-5 trucks were on the scene. Smoke was concentrated on the second floor and seemed be coming from under the roof line perhaps the attic. Firefighters used ladders to quickly access the second floor balcony and forced their way into the house. There wasn’t a ton of smoke but you could definitely smell it in the air. Watching the firefighters in action was impressive. Everyone quickly and efficiently set about their tasks and brought a sense of calm to what could be a chaotic scene.

By 9:55 AM the scene had calmed down dramatically and groups of firefighters were rehydrating with water and Gatorade.

There is little doubt that a quick response by the Richmond Fire Department prevented this from being a much worst incident.
