Fatal shooting near Virginia Union University

A VUU sophomore was shot and killed near VUU’s campus late Sunday night.

NBC12 has reported the name of the victim.

Virginia Union police identified the victim of a deadly shooting near campus as 20-year-old Kahron M. Lee.

Lee, a sophomore Computer Information Systems major, was shot around midnight in the 1300 block of West Graham Road, not far from campus. Virginia Union University Police Chief Carlton Edwards said in a release Lee “was a well-liked person who was active in the campus community”

Detectives have been in the area this morning to hand out fliers and speak to residents about what they may have seen or heard last night.

Early this morning a man was shot and killed at 1304 W. Graham Road, an apartment complex adjacent to Virginia Union University. The University was locked down for two hours, and police have yet to release any details.

The RTD doesn’t have much to add.

Officers responding to an 11:52 p.m. report of gunfire and a person down found a man with gunshot wounds in the 1300 block of West Graham Road, said Dionne Waugh, a Richmond police spokeswoman. The man died at VCU Medical Center.

The victim’s identity was not released pending notification of relatives.

Police did not immediately release suspect information.

The investigation was continuing today.
