The City Council passed a measure last night that extends the deadline for Richmonders to pay their property taxes to June 1st. The previous tax deadline was May 1st, leaving some residents only two weeks to pay upwards of several hundreds of dollars in property taxes to the city. Along with the short deadline, over 3,000 tax bills were incorrectly overstated to property owners. The city will send residents who received an inflated bill new, accurate assessments later this week.

The new deputy chief administrative officer, Sharon Judkins, who was hired in March, said that the city is working to correct the “inventory of issues” associated with the city’s property tax.
