Chimborzao Elementary to offer IB program

Chimborazo will be the first elementary school in central Virginia to offer the IB PYP

RPS Press Release

Chimborazo Elementary School recently received official notification of its authorization to become an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School® in the Primary Years Programme (PYP). The notification serves as a high point in a four-year effort of the district’s staff, parents, volunteers and community partners in bringing the IB PYP curriculum framework to Chimborazo students.

The IB PYP is a transdisciplinary program designed for students ages 3 to 12, which focuses on the development of the whole child and inquiry-based learning. PYP draws on research and best practices from a range of national systems with a wealth of knowledge and experience from international schools to create a relevant engaging, challenging and significant educational framework for all children.

As an IB World school, all students who attend Chimborazo will receive an IB education without the requirement of an application. Similarly, the school’s teaching staff
will also receive extensive IB-certified training. The school will also continue to conduct monthly parent workshops and hold bimonthly taskforce meetings to provide ongoing information regarding IB principles and philosophies.

Chimborazo will be the first elementary school in central Virginia to offer the IB PYP.
