Richmond Public Schools hosts parent forum

Dr. LaMarr Shields headlines this family-friendly event focused on getting schools, parents, and students to work together to ensure success.

As part of its new Be There initiative to inspire moms, dads, and caregivers to take advantage of everyday opportunities to get involved in their children’s education, Richmond Public Schools will host a parent forum to explore the whats, whys, and hows of families and schools working together to help students succeed.

Master teacher, author, and motivational speaker Dr. LaMarr Shields will give the keynote address. Dr. Shields currently serves as the Senior Director of Education and Innovation at The Cambrio Group, a Baltimore-based consulting firm focused on creating more positive environments for schools and businesses. Dr. Shield conducts hundreds of workshops year-round to help parents and educators inspire, engage, and advocate for their children.

If you’d like a preview of Dr. Shields’s style, take a look at his TedxBaltimore talk from 2011:

The forum will take place on Saturday, December 12th from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the St. Paul’s Baptist Church southside campus (700 E. Belt Boulevard). Children are welcome; there will be plenty of activities to keep them entertained while you hear from Dr. Shields.

Admission to the forum is free, and boxed lunches will be served. Keep an eye out for door prizes–including a laptop?!?–and the children’s book giveaway.
