PHOTOS: Ironclad Coffee Roasters opens in Scott’s Addition
The company currently offers five unique coffee blends and will soon be available for purchase at farmers markets and other locations around town.
A startup coffee roaster was welcomed to Scott’s Addition this morning by neighbors and equine alike. The Richmond Police Department’s Mounted Squad was on hand for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Ironclad Coffee Roasters.
Owner Ryan O’Rourke spent nearly five years in Europe, drawing on his experiences with coffee roasters and other businesses there to open Ironclad upon his return home, creating what he calls “a passion for, and almost an obsession with, providing an outstanding product with impeccable levels of integrity and customer service.”
The roastery, located in an alley garage between West Moore and Norfolk Streets, is fairly inconspicuous from the outside, save for a roof-mounted sign. Inside, the spacious setup features the bare necessities–a large coffee roaster and barrels of coffee beans at the ready for production–with plenty of room to grow.
Currently, Ironclad currently offers five blends, including Brazil Sitio Barra Grande Estate; Ethiopia Hambela Alaka; Gold Mountain Cornucopia Microlot; Gold Mountain Finca Idealista Honey; and the Honduras San Vincente Decaf.
Coffee is available for purchase by the bag at the retail storefront and at via an online store, and the company hopes to offer its products at area farmers markets, restaurants, and cafés soon. O’Rourke notes he’s currently working on distribution deals with several other businesses. A walk-up coffee window is also in the works, pending approval from the City of Richmond.
Ironclad Coffee Roasters is located at 2904 West Moore Street behind Moore Street Café in Scott’s Addition.
