Phil’s moves, the Roosevelt opens, and more restaurant updates

Richmond is experiencing a bit of a restaurant renaissance. Old favorites are moving into sleeker locations, and brand new spots are vying to become your next favorite joint. We have a rundown of the latest restaurant news so that you don’t get left behind.

Stella’s opens for lunch and dinner on August 1, and is located at 1012 Lafayette Street in the Near West End. Stella’s makes a comeback after an eight-year-run in the now Rowland Fine Dining location and 12 years prior to that in the current Edo’s Squid location. Stella Dikos opens the restaurant with her daughter Katrina Giavos of 3 Monkeys, Sidewalk Café, Kitchen 64. It is said to be the best Greek food you’ll ever taste. Go and find out for yourself! Menus and hours can be seen on their website.

Phil’s the longtime Near West End favorite famously known for those delicious adult limeades is moving across the street. They are planning for a mid-September opening next to Pearl’s Cupcake Shoppe at 5810 Grove Ave.

It is rumored that Amy Cabaniss, who has owned Julep’s New Southern Cusine for the past eight years, has purchased the old Davis & Main location in The Fan. Hopefully Bobby Krueger will come along as well with those delicious cocktail concoctions. Stay tuned for confirmation and possible opening dates.

Bin 22 in Carytown is rumored to be closed, which we first found out from Richmond.com. The website is no longer up and running and the phone line has been disconnected. Put two-and-two together and it looks like the coffee and wine nook no longer occupies the corner of Cary and Auburn. Quick! Someone make use of that fantastic patio!

The Roosevelt is finally open! We’ve eaten dinner there and it is well worth the wait. Kendra Feather of Garnett’s and Ipanema opens her third restaurant, this time in Church Hill, located at 623 North 25th Street in the former Que Pasa spot. Selba hosted a soft opening last Friday the 23rd, and so far it is looking to be a new Fan favorite. Their mission is to create healthy and flavorful meals for their customers. They are located 2416 West Cary Street, between Davis and Stafford in the Fan. For more on Selba and Chef Abram Jackson, take a look at this.

  2. @Marcus, you won’t be disappointed. I had this insane roasted porkbelly. I can’t stop thinking about it two days later.

Went to Stella’s last night for the friends and family night. The restaurant looks fantastic! Absolutely beautiful! The food, as always, is pure Stella’s. All the ole favorites are back along with some new soon to be favorites. The staff was very well trained and knowledgably and the evening went very smoothly…especially for opening night.

Looking forward to going back soon!
