New Jimmy Sneed restaurant to open, a new name for Betsy’s at Bin 22, and food tips for the Folk Festival

What do you think of when you hear the phrase “blow toad?” Well, never mind that, because it’s going to be the name of a new restaurant in Carytown. We also have the best picks for where to eat while at the Folk Festival this weekend, and we give you a prep-course in the upcoming Restaurant Week.

A few weeks ago we let you know that Double T’s Barbeque had shut down in Carytown, but there was rumor of another restaurant going into that location. Well now it is official. According to Style Weekly, Jimmy Sneed will be taking over that space for his new restaurant, BlowToad. Sneed plans to be open by Thanksgiving, serving up pizza from and prime rib and other meats. The space won’t quite look the same when you walk in because designer Helen Reed is currently working on a few renovations including a walk-up pizza window!

In other Carytown News, Style Weekly is also reporting that the former Betsy’s at Bin 22 is open under a different name – Carytown Bistro. They are open daily offering up house-baked pastries, breakfast and lunch sandwiches, paninis, coffee, craft beers, wine and more. Don’t forget about that patio! Check out their Facebook HERE to see live music schedules.

Unless you have been living under a rock, you know this weekend is the Folk Festival. Richmond’s festival of ALL festivals. Most of you will be spending a good amount of time down there this weekend, and with all that folkin’ you are going to need to do some eatin’. Obviously the talented people who put on this annual shindig know that, next to festivals, Richmonders love nothing more than good food. You can peruse the list of food vendors who will serving up dishes all weekend HERE. Some all-stars to note would be Goatocado whose dishes are always mouth-watering and include a lot of vegan options, Sam Miller’s will be shucking FRESH OYSTERS, Ginger Thai, La Milpa if you are in the mood for fantastic Mexican, and Sticky Bones BBQ.

Restaurant Week is upon us and we have been working hard to get those menus so you all can start sending out mass voting emails for where you and your entourage will be dining this year. Take a look at the ones we’ve got so far.
