We’re calling this “Homicide #3” because it is the third confirmed homicide committed within city liimts in 2016.

Original — January 12, 2016

Victim

Mark Jackson-Silver, 19 from the 1300 block of Jennie Scher Road.

A public viewing will be held on Sunday, January 24th, 2016 at Hope Christian Ministries (5300 W. Marshall Road), followed by a 3:00 PM funeral service. Interment will take place on Monday, January 25th at 12:00 PM at Evergreen Cemetery.

The incident

This is the third confirmed homicide in one week, and the second for Southside.

Where: 6500 Block of Midlothian Turnpike on Southside.
When: Thursday, January 7th, police were called to a call around 1:00 AM.
Weapon: One apparent gunshot wound. Jackson-Silver died from his injuries at the hospital.

The investigation

RPD arrested Alvin Ruffin, Jr., 25, of the 1200 block of E. Marshall Street on January 7th on charge of shooting in commission of a felony. On January 11th, he was charged with voluntary manslaughter. The law sure is a confusing place.
