Jorge’s Cantina will replace FanHouse next month

A Mexican restaurant that was initially set to open in Fredericksburg will now premiere in RVA.

Next month, Mexican restaurant Jorge’s Cantina will replace FanHouse at the corner of Robinson Street and Floyd Avenue.

A concept combining George Washington with authentic Mexican cuisine, Jorge’s is a joint partnership, including, most notably, local restaurateur Jake Crocker (F.W. Sullivan’s, Lady N’awlins, Uptown Market and Deli).

“It’s different and definitely fun” Crocker said about Jorge’s Cantina. “We wanted to bring terrific Mexican cuisine to the upper part of the Fan District and create a fun, casual atmosphere with broad appeal to residents of all ages that puts a smile on our patron’s faces and acknowledges part of our own local history.”

Crocker said negotiations to take over FanHouse began two months ago, with the deal having been finalized last week. A Jorge’s Cantina was slated to open in Fredericksburg last year. Crocker said while that location is still pending, owners were eager to bring the Mexican concept to RVA.

Co-owner Jose Garcia said the menu “will have a variety of Mexican favorites and also feature an à la carte menu taquería-style tacos, tortillas, fajitas, burritos, and Jorge’s specials. In addition to authentic Mexican cuisine, we’ll feature a large selection of the world’s best tequilas and Jorge’s own Margarita menu.”

Jorge’s Cantina is scheduled to open for dinner in early February. Initially, lunch will be available on weekends, with weekday lunch service beginning at a later date.

Jorge’s Cantina is located at 2526 Floyd Avenue.
