Henrico claims highest employable Millennial count in Central Virginia

Born between 1982 and 2004, they are the Millennial generation – and their impact on the workplace is significant, especially in Henrico County.

They represented one-third of the total U.S. population in 2013, according to one White House report. Who are they? Born between 1982 and 2004, they are the Millennial generation – and their impact on the workplace is significant, especially in Henrico County. With more than 64,000 citizens aged 20 to 34, Henrico has the most of any locality in the Central Virginia region and ranks sixth in the state for largest pool of potential employable Millennials.

Millennials are said to be the most diverse and educated generation to date, and they’re looking for a very specific type of work environment in the area. “We appreciate when our employers offer us opportunities to engage outside of our regular work activities,” says Leigh Dorris Woods, current chair of the Greater Richmond Chamber’s HYPE (Helping Young Professionals Engage) community. “Whether it’s membership in an organization like HYPE or volunteer opportunities that encourage employees to get out in the community, creating an environment that values both the work we do and our presence as members of a community helps us feel connected to both our employer and our region.”
