Food News: RVA gets fancy, Strawberry Street Fest, and new restaurants galore!

The RVA food world this week features a few new edible spots, saying goodbye to a Fan classic on Strawberry Street, and there’s a fun family-friendly festival to look forward a few blocks away. Fingers crossed for happy weather!

Starting with the sad news: we’re sad to see a longstanding business bid adieu, but the quaint wine shop, Strawberry Street Vineyard, closed last week.

Another popular grocery chain, Whole Foods, comes to the neighborhood! Although the whereabouts are unknown, we’ve mapped out some possible locations for the healthy-buffet-lover’s favorite lunch spot on Broad Street.

Eight new deliciously amazing restaurants opened in April. Bringing some foodie variety to RVA, the choices range from go-to place for cakes to African-Caribbean cuisine. We’ve even got a list of ALL the new restaurants that have opened in 2014.

Fancy Asian and Sushi Restaurant opened in Forest Hill this week in the old Evo space. Rumor has it that you get 20% off opening week if you eat in. So go get fancy shmancy without paying full fancy prices.

On Saturday, May 10th from 12:00 – 4:00 PM, get ready for games, rides, and FOOD TRUCKS at Fox Elementary’s 35th annual Strawberry Street Festival. It’s family Fan fun at its finest! Alliteration!

Richmond.com’s Karri Peifer is already on the story of the upcoming restaurant, The Betty on Davis, which replaced Avenue 805 on Davis Avenue. Not a ton of details yet, so stay tuned!
