Food News: Moving restaurants, veggies, and soccer celebrating!

This week’s Food News will get your mind off the oven-hot weather and onto cooler things like a new location for Boyer’s Ice Cream, Reginald’s Homemade becoming a big deal, some information on new restaurants, and plenty more awesome #rvadine goodness.

The shout-outs for Richmond restaurants run rampant right now, so it’s no surprise that Rappahannock, The Roosevelt, and other local favorites got some much deserved attention in Food Republic’s article on five chefs’ favorite southern food.

Downtown restaurant and lounge, 2113 Bistro, closed yesterday after almost two years in business. We’ll keep you updated on future plans for the place!

Boyer’s Ice Cream will move a few blocks near the Libbie and Grove area later this week. It’ll be a bit more spacious and possibly become equipped with local coffee and sweet treats.

The Today show featured Reginald’s Homemade this week during a segment on clean eating and something called maple water. We here at RVANews have gotten to sample many of their awesome flavors, but you can find a jar yourself at Ellwood Thompson’s and various farmer’s markets.

More noodles are coming to the city, and luckily Noodle Shop has Shockoe Bottom all to itself. Owners Gaw Paw and Ma Lay saw a lack of Japanese noodles in Richmond’s dining scene and opened last week on 1823 E Main. We could catch on to this noodle trend.

No one wants to be the jerk who didn’t make the birthday party, so it’s nice that Amour Wine Bistro gave us the entire month of June to celebrate their four year anniversary by offering one free meal to every table of four. The party continues on June 25th, which includes a four-course dinner with optional two levels wine pairing. The menu will be posted soon on their website.

Earlier in June, Virginia Diner Shoppe joined the quirky stores in Carytown to provide Richmonders with an even easier way to obtain local treats and gifts to out-of-towners. However, we recommend you keep those chocolate-covered peanuts for yourself.

Julep’s will move from Shockoe Bottom to downtown later in February. We’ll keep you updated as owner Amy Ayers designs and rebuilds the new spot at 420 E. Grace Street.

As mentioned a few Food Newses ago, we announced the opening of Brux’l Cafe in the Fan. Despite its cursed location, it has received rave reviews by the crowds who visit, and even a nice piece by Richmond.com’s Karri Peiffer.

— ∮∮∮ —

Speaking of Karri Peifer, she’s got a great list of the Fried Chicken Nights happening all over Richmond every night of the week.

— ∮∮∮ —

Soccer fans, unite! The Richmond Kickers have invited local World Cup fans to watch the USA vs. Portugal game at 1 W. Grace Street. There will be food trucks, beer, and lots of American pride.

— ∮∮∮ —

Drop the V8s, because you’re eating actual vegetables this weekend. The Richmond Vegetarian Festival will take place at Azalea Gardens in Bryan Park. It’s free, fun for all ages, and healthy! Veggies!
