Favorites: Secco’s burrata

I mean, it’s just cheese and toast, right?

Except it’s not. The burrata ($10) at Secco is one of those deceptively simple dishes that seems disproportionately flavorful. It starts with the burrata itself–fresh mozzarella surrounding a mixture of mozzarella curd and cream. The resulting cheese is rich and spreadable, perfect for the accompanying grilled Billy Bread.

Chef Tim Bereika serves the cheese on a pesto of parsley, mint, lemon, pecorino Toscano, walnuts, extra virgin olive oil, sea salt, and black pepper. And just to gild the lily? A drizzle of fine, aged balsamic vinegar.

  1. Just thought I’d add the extra detail that this shot was taken on film using a gigantic medium format camera.

  2. Great shot of a delicious dish. Secco is always one of the best dining choices in our fair city!
