Favorites: Pearl’s Cupcake Shoppe’s Double Trouble cupcake

The national cupcake fad is in remission and, with it, the number of bakeries dedicated to these personal desserts. But the cupcake itself is one of America’s original sweets, so I’m happy to see Pearl’s Cupcake Shoppe outlive the trend. Pearl’s produces moist little cakes ($2.75) of just the right size with an appropriate quantity of buttercream frosting. Creative flavor combinations rotate through the menu, but my favorite is one of their regulars: the Double Trouble. What self-respecting chocoholic can pass up chocolate frosting on devil’s food cake?
