Cinebistro wants to “change the way people watch movies, create romantic moments, eat and socialize.” They’re opening at Stony Point Fashion Park on October 22.

And no, it’s not a place that sells cinnamon buns. Say the name out loud and tell me that’s not what you thought too. This is not your typical multiplex. Where else can you dine while watching a first-run movie? Bow-Tie Cinema’s Movieland was the first to bring a lounge-type atmosphere to the movies with a bar in their entry and Movies & Mimosas on the weekend. Cinebistro is much, much more.

Reserved seating means you book a specific chair, just like with a theater event, sit in high-back, leather rocking chairs, and share the screen with only 70 to 80 others. The Richmond location will have six theaters. To eat during the movie, you must arrive at least 30 minutes prior, since wait staff does not interrupt once the movie has begun. You can always visit the concession during the showing for a wine refill or snack on your own.

You must be 21 years and up to enter after 6pm or to participate in the in-theatre dining. The age restriction was purposeful to create a more sophisticated environment. Kid-less me who works with college students all day can get behind that idea!

The full service restaurant is available to those who wish to dine without viewing a movie. Additionally, a separate cocktail area and patio with full bar, including movie-themed cocktails, beer, wines priced by the 6oz, 10oz, and by the bottle, and coffee and espresso, is open for socializing.

The menu features likable dishes with a refined flair, like the BBQ pork rib stack with cherry Coca-Cola BBQ sauce and grilled flatbread with balsamic figs and brie. Of course they also have typical concession food like Milk Duds, and popcorn, which for $7, comes with complimentary refills.

Corporate chef Isaac Stewart notes there’s really nothing else like Cinebistro’s concept on the East coast. “This is the sixth one we’ve built in three years,” he says. The nearest is in Hampton. While Stewart is here to help with the opening of the location, there is a local executive chef who will utilize local ingredients and who understands the local palate “to give people in Richmond what they want.”

Cinebistro also handles corporate, charity, festival, and private screening events. Their website says they are still hiring for the Richmond location.
