Annual Awards Honor Creativity in Business

The deadline for nominations for the 2008 VMFA Muse Awards is Tuesday, Jan. 15.

The awards, which champion creativity and innovation in business, are awarded each year to nine Virginia companies that demonstrate a uniquely creative approach to products, services, campaigns, organizational structure, or other corporate aspect. A Top Muse award will go to the business that demonstrates the most outstanding overall creative approach.

Nominations and applications are accepted on-line at www.vmfa.museum/museawardsform.html. Forms also may be requested from VMFA Corporate Relations Manager Elizabeth Lowsley-Williams. Her e-mail address is elizabeth.lowsley-williams@vmfa.museum; her fax number is (804) 340-1465.

“Last year’s awards were tremendously competitive, attracting a broad spectrum of compelling, exciting and innovative companies that really sought to inspire and engage, while challenging traditional thinking,” says Eddie Gugelman, chairman of the VMFA Business Council and a senior vice president at SunTrust Bank Mid-Atlantic. “Through these awards we want to continue to recognize and reward creative genius and inspire companies throughout the Commonwealth to lead the way in their fields.”

Created in 2005, the Muse Awards are sponsored by VMFA’s Business Council. Seventy businesses were nominated for the 2007 Muse Awards, and 18 were selected as finalists. Intrinergy LLC received the Top Muse award in recognition of extraordinary creativity in its renewable energy processing.

Muse winners receive a cast-aluminum spiral trophy, patterned after a chambered nautilus and meant to symbolize the natural evolution of creativity.

Finalists will be announced Feb. 8. Winners will be announced at the Muse Awards Un-Gala March 6.

The VMFA Business Council is an association of business executives and leaders who seek to promote and maintain a dialogue between Virginia’s business community and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. The Business Council highlights and promotes the contributions the museum makes to the quality of life and economic vitality of the region.
