The new 3,300-square-foot facility will offer a variety of dance and cardio classes targeting women when it opens in March.
A local dance teacher is expanding her footprint into the burgeoning Scott’s Addition neighborhood, and bringing on a new partner in the process.
Sandi Cauley, the owner of Dance Trance Richmond, has been teaching and growing her business for over 12 years. She recently decided to move out of a shared space at Rigby’s Jig into one of her own in order to expand her offerings and her floor plan. The new space will be 3,300-square-feet.
As she considered expanding the fitness program offering and looking for someone to partner with, she says partnering up with Seo Kelleher, owner of CO2Fit was a natural choice.
The two met a couple of years ago at RVA Streets Alive, the outdoor fitness festival sponsored by Sportsbackers in an effort to get Richmond more active.
“I remember seeing a group of people dancing and having so much fun, I had to go over introduce myself to Sandi,” recalls Kelleher.
“I loved how Seo was building a strong community of people who were getting fit, having fun, and making a positive impact to the Richmond community, something we at Dance Trance Richmond believe in too.”
“By joining forces with CO2Fit, we can now offer not only dance-related fitness programs but also other fitness programs to provide well-rounded class offerings,” said Cauley.
At the new facility, which will be called TURN Cardio Jam Studio, the pair will offer a variety of group fitness classes such as Dance Trance, POUND Rockout Workout, Urban Ballet, Bootcamp, and Yoga. There will also be specialty classes including Hip-Hop, Sideline/Dance Team, and other strength classes.
But most importantly, Cauley and Kelleher hope to make Turn Cardio Jam Studio a non-intimidating, supportive space where people can feel welcomed and comfortable, and have a great time working out.
“We hear so often how many women feel anxiety toward joining a group class, they fear not knowing anyone in class, making mistakes and not being able to follow…and it’s our mission to help women experience the joy of working out in a group and having a positive experience for themselves as well as others.”
The studio is now open, with plans for a grand opening celebration on March 21st.
