The branching avenues that give the Fan its characteristic fan shape form several triangular green spaces, including Harrison Street Park, Lombardy Park and Monroe Park. Stroll through these, as well as some of the landscaped alleys and hidden gardens of the Fan.

City Council Formal Meeting

Every 2nd and 4th Mon – Responsible for deciding official Council action, which includes discussing, adopting, rejecting, and amending laws and approving the budget. Formal meetings include a time for pubic comment and are televised live on the local PBS station and are replayed in Richmond on Government Access Channel 17, beginning at Noon and 7:00 p.m. daily.

Historic Garden Week of Virginia on the Boulevard

In April 2012, the Garden Club of Virginia’s Historic Garden Week will celebrate its 79th year of showcasing historic gardens and homes across Virginia. The tour is the largest and oldest statewide tour in the country and is referred to as “America’s Largest Open House.” Over thirty tours take place all over Virginia during this one week each spring.

This year, The Council of Historic Richmond Foundation and The Garden Clubs of Richmond have chosen Rich- mond’s Boulevard between Monument Avenue and Cary Street as one of the Richmond tour venues. The Boulevard tour will be on Wednesday April 25, 2012, from 10 a.m., until 4:30 p.m.

Herbs Galore & More

More than 40 vendors from the mid-Atlantic fill Maymont’s Carriage House Lawn with every imaginable herb as well as annuals, perennials, trees, vegetables, and herbal products and crafts for this one-of-a-kind event.

West Avenue Garden Tour

Plan to come to this free and open to the public
event. There is a children’s flag parade at noon followed by clowns, face painting and other activities to please the children. Refreshments are served in the alleys and many of the gardens in the alleys between Franklin Street, West Avenue and Park Avenue will be open. It is a great way to get ideas on how to garden in small spaces. The gardens are open from 12:30 p.m., until 5:00 p.m. This event is lots of fun and will take place rain or shine.
