Petersburg High School (PHS) will begin the 2008-2009 school year with nearly 28 new members of the National Honor Society, following an induction ceremony held at the end of the 2007-2008 school year. Although the 12th grade students in the group went on to graduate from PHS in June, rising juniors and seniors will be back in the fall, exemplifying scholarship, character, leadership and service – four key requirements for membership in this prestigious national organization.

At the induction ceremony, Virginia L. Mann, former principal of Westview Elementary School, addressed the candidates, reminding them of the many places that they can go with a good education. Lawrence Bolar, assistant principal of PHS, also spoke at the event, while the traditional posting of colors was carried out by the PHS JROTC and the PHS Music Department provided music.

The PHS chapter of the NHS has been led by Dr. Jacquelyn Hopkins for four years.
