The public is invited to the groundbreaking of an energy efficient home in North Richmond; the home will be constructed by young adults in the foster care system and will be occupied by a pre-qualified homeowner raised in the foster care system.

F.I.R.S.T. Contractors, Inc. will be holding a Groundbreaking Ceremony for the construction of its First Annual HouseBuild Project on Tuesday, September 9 at noon. The public is invited and encouraged to attend this event. Several civic and community leaders will be in attendance, including Richmond City Council member Ellen Robertson and Sponsor, Capital One’s Andrea Wright.

The Groundbreaking Ceremony will be at the intersection of Lamb Avenue and East Home Street in Richmond’s North Side.

F.I.R.S.T. Contractors, Inc. plans to construct a single family, two-story energy efficient (green) home. The house, when completed, will be occupied by a pre-qualified homeowner who was raised in the foster care system.

FCI young adults will participate in every phase of the 10th Anniversary HouseBuild Project, allowing them an opportunity to learn transferable life management and employability skills. The funds raised through the HouseBuild Project will create an ongoing opportunity for after school creative programming for at-risk youth.

March of this year marked a decade of success for FCI’s Job Readiness Program, which prepares at risk young adults for life after foster care. During the past ten years, Richmond area social and juvenile justice agencies have referred over 500 at-risk young adults who were in the process of leaving foster care to participate in F.I.R.S.T. (First In Readiness and Self-Sufficiency Training) Contractors, Inc. Job Readiness Training Program.

Also, on Friday, September 26, FCI is hosting its 10th Anniversary Celebration at Richmond’s Main Street Station. For more information visit www.firstcontractors.org or contact Larry Lindsey at 804.329.9669.
