The Richmond Police’s Sector 412 has issued its July 2008 monthly report to the community. Below are a few highlights of interest to the North Richmond community:

Under Significant Arrests:

  • When Officer Chris Snyder of the Evening Shift responded to a call of an at a church in the Ginter Park area, he could smell a peculiar aroma coming from the area of a basement stairwell. Closer inspection revealed two juveniles smoking marijuana had leaned up against the door, triggering the silent alarm. The two were arrested. Whoops.
  • An alert citizen called to report a subject acting suspiciously in the yard of a vacant house in the 1600 block of Claremont Avenue and called the police. Officer Raymond Misegades of Day Shift responded to investigate and discovered a pick-up loaded with copper piping and an individual removing it from the house. Thanks to the neighbor’s vigilance, the subject was arrested for burglary and larceny of the copper pipe.
  • Quick response and teamwork by Officers Kim Cheatham-Mclarin and Tameka Owens of Day Shift led to the location and arrest of a suspect in a robbery and assault occurring on Chamberlayne Avenue.
  • Officers from Sector 412 Day Shift, assisted by officers from 1st Precinct and officers from the 4th Precinct Focus Mission Team conducted an undercover operation on 7-24, resulting in the arrest of three individuals from Chamberlayne Avenue for prostitution.
  • Crime Stats:

    At the end of July 2008, in Sector 412, motor vehicle thefts were down 25% for the year. Robberies of business were down 53%. Robberies of individuals were down 36%. Residential burglaries were unfortunately up from 51 in 2007 to 68 in 2008 for an increase of 33%. Thefts from motor vehicles were up 46%. IPods, GPS systems, wallets, cash and other valuable items continue to be left in plain sight inside cars. Please take the time to lock things in your trunk or take them in the house.
