Richmond Police Department reports:

At approximately 10:37pm on Monday, November 3, a Richmond police officer accidentally struck a male pedestrian attempting to cross Chamberlayne Avenue near the intersection of Overbrook Road.

As the police officer swerved to avoid hitting the pedestrian, the pedestrian was struck by the car’s driver side mirror. The police cruiser also hit a GRTC bus sign when it ran up on the curb.

The pedestrian – identified as Jeffry Lynn Ferguson, 51, of no fixed address, – was taken to VCU Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries. The two officers in the police cruiser were not injured.

The investigation is ongoing.
