1) Even grown-ups take notes at A.P. Hill Elementary
Dr. Phyllis Byrd, Principal of A.P. Hill Elementary School in Petersburg, wanted to ensure that all teachers at the school have the training necessary to implement the initiatives for the 2008-2009 school year.

She asked AP Hill Literacy Coach, Vonnie Kunkel, to conduct a staff development on note-taking, which is one of those initiatives. All AP Hill teachers in grades 2 to 5 and the support staff participated in a training titled, “Interactive Note-taking: Teaching Reading in Context.”

The teachers set up a notebook and worked through it as if they were a student. Also, it was emphasized that good reading strategies are incorporated in the process of Interactive Note-taking.
