Ranger Leslie McClammy is the new educational specialist at Petersburg National Battlefield. An Air Force veteran and a veteran math and computer science teacher, McClammy recently worked at the Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail (AL) and at Historic Jamestown (VA).

Her goals for Petersburg National Battlefield’s education programming includes reaching out to community agencies that have not normally come to the park, developing programs to attract local colleges, building on the success of the park’s summer camps, offering teacher-ranger workshops on the specifics of the siege, visiting as many schools as she can and increasing school field trips to the park.

“I am excited about all the opportunities here at the battlefield,” said McClammy, “and I’m looking forward to helping students of all ages learn about their history.”

McClammy earned her Masters Degree in Education and Teaching last year from Old Dominion University. She has three children and one grandchild and her husband is currently a ranger at Colonial National Historic Park – Yorktown Battlefield.

For more information about the education program at Petersburg National Battlefield, please call ranger McClammy at (804) 732-3531 ext. 204.
