Montessori School celebrates international diversity at Winterfest this Saturday
The event takes place from noon – 2:00 PM Saturday at the school’s campus on North Parham Road.

From Richmond Montessori School:
Montessori School will celebrate its 47 percent ethnic diversity at Winterfest, a family-friendly event to celebrate the 18 countries represented at the school. Winterfest takes place tomorrow, Feb. 6 from 12-2 p.m. at Richmond Montessori School, located at 499 N. Parham Road.
Each class will present a different country or region including Kenya, Cuba, Brazil, India, Iran, USA, Kuwait, Paris, South Korea, England and Argentina. Enjoy the music, arts, food and clothing from each country or region. Students will receive a passport to have stamped as they travel throughout the classrooms.
Students of every race, color, national and ethnic origin call Richmond Montessori School home and are encouraged to be citizens of a global society–just as Dr. Maria Montessori envisioned 100 years ago.
One of the major components of Dr. Montessori’s plan for peace education is a curriculum that de-emphasizes nationalism. The “big picture” of the cultural curriculum at Richmond Montessori School encourages the perspective that people are citizens of Earth first, and only secondarily American, Japanese, Polish, or other nationalities.
“Richmond Montessori School is superbly suited to prepare students to flourish in culturally and racially diverse environments. We celebrate diversity naturally, and we stand out in the Richmond independent school community,” says Murray.
