Major upgrades coming to Short Pump Park this summer
Residents can expect a ‘sprayground,’ a dog park, and a number of new walking trails and shelters.
Some big changes are about to come to Short Pump Park. New construction beginning this June is expected to make the park a new hotspot for dog lovers and moms alike.
After a 2005 bond referendum was passed approving the funds for an expansion of the park, it’s taken ten years to plan and work out the details. Now those plans are finally becoming a reality and the wait looks to be worth it.
“You’re going to see a network of trails that’s going to connect with the surrounding land uses. You’re going to see a dog park, a landscaped plaza and play area, a spray feature, fountain feature, and really some family oriented, passive recreational features that are going to come out of the ground as part of this park,” said Neil Luther, the Director of Henrico County Recreation and Parks.
The park, adjacent to Short Pump Elementary, currently features sports field and the restored 1902 Deep Run Schoolhouse. A rendering of the approved changes can be seen below. Explore in more detail here (PDF).
