Richmond’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities will hold its third annual It Starts in Parks Festival on Saturday, June 7, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. around Fountain Lake in Byrd Park.

The festival is a great way to kick off a summer of outdoor fun for the entire family, all for free!

The festival features games and activities for all ages, prizes and free giveaways, and a lineup of live entertainment including Oldies but Goodies, Hispanic folk dancing, the City Dance Theatre, the Virginians barbershop quartet, steel pan drumming, indie folk singer Shane Sayers and other entertainment for families and children.

Fluffy the Clown will be on hand, as will a balloon artist and tattoo artist. There will be tree climbing, a petting zoo, face painting, arts and crafts, basketball, putt putt, volleyball, disc golf, hula hoops, pedal boat rides, turtles and snakes, a toddler play area, a moon bounce, an inflatable slide, and lawn games such as chess and checkers and a tug of war.

Vendors will offer food for sale, and exhibitors will share information on healthy and safe activities for the summer.
