North Richmond’s representative on City Council, Chris Hilbert, is facing some competition this fall in his bid for reelection, Style Weekly reports today:
Third District Councilman Chris Hilbert will face at least one challenger when he runs for re-election in the fall. Jonathan Davis, a longtime district resident and community activist, says he’ll officially announce his candidacy Feb. 25.

“The people of the 3rd District deserve to have a voice,” Davis says, “and I don’t think they have much of one right now.” He plans to campaign on promises to “fight for schools,” crack down on crime and revitalize Brookland Park Boulevard and North Avenue on the North Side.

Davis, 47, teaches graphic design at Bon Air Juvenile Correctional Center and lives in Battery Park with his wife and their three children, ages 14, 13 and 7.

The former president of the Battery Park Civic Association, Davis says he first thought about running in 2004 but decided to wait. When Tropical Storm Ernesto flooded Battery Park in 2006, he says Hilbert’s reaction underwhelmed him.
