Henrico County Recreation and Parks properties, staff honored with awards
Twin Hickory Par was named the state’s Best New Facility and a staff member was also honored.
From Henrico Parks and Recreation:
The Henrico County Division of Recreation and Parks received two awards from the Virginia Recreation and Park Society at its annual conference, held Nov. 7-10 in Virginia Beach, VA. This prestigious state-wide awards program honors individuals, agencies and organizations throughout Virginia who have demonstrated excellence in several areas during the previous calendar year.
Twin Hickory Park was awarded the Best New Facility (Parks, Playgrounds Greenways, and Trails) in the population category of 100,000+. A few highlights of the site include walking trails, open play areas, multi-purpose field, landscaping, irrigation, a picnic shelter with restrooms, a playground for 2-5 year olds and one for 6-12 year olds. The most unique characteristic of the park is the “Sprayground”- a small, whimsical, zero-depth water play feature intended for children.
Heather Grubb, Recreation Coordinator, was recognized as with the outstanding new professional award. Heather has been with Recreation and Parks for approximately six years. She is a service-oriented recreation professional and an outstanding asset to Henrico County. Heather is a passionate and creative programmer and always gives 110% to keep our programming fresh and relevant for today’s population.
She oversees the Division’s Summer Blast Camp, as well as serves as the Chair for the Marketing Function Group and is a member of the Special Events Planning Focus Group. Since 2013, Heather has been an active member in VRPS’s Central Service Area section where she has served as Secretary and will become co-chair in 2016.
