Personal Care Preferred Group is holding a food drive at all seven of its locations through December 17. The donated food will be evenly distributed among the Tri-City and southern Virginia areas, including the counties of Isle of Wight, Prince George, Sussex, Southampton, Surry, Brunswick, Greensville, Chesterfield and Dinwiddie, as well as the cities of Emporia, Petersburg, Hopewell and Franklin. Community members and employees are asked to donate non-perishable, non-breakable food items used in healthy meals, including canned fruits and vegetables, canned meats and fish, and pasta.

Due to many economic factors including the current housing crisis, rising utility costs and an increasing unemployment rate, demand at local food banks has been far exceeding the supply, and due to reduced assistance from the government, more community donations are needed.

“We take community involvement seriously at Personal Care,” said John Thurman, owner of the home health care company. “We understand how hard people are struggling, especially during the holiday season.”

The Personal Care Preferred Group consists of three individual companies, Personal Touch Home Care, Moore Home Care and Southern Touch Health Care. The group has offices in Stony Creek, Colonial Heights, Waverly, Emporia, Petersburg, Lawrenceville, and a new location in Franklin that will open by December 1. Donations can be made at any of their locations during normal business hours.
