Ellwood Thompson’s Local Market is heading north to Washington, D.C. The company is opening a new store that will be located at 14th and Irving Streets, NW to serve the Columbia Heights and Mount Pleasant neighborhoods.
Ellwoods is maintaining its local focus even as it pertains to this expansion; the new store will be slightly less than 100 miles from Carytown. Richmond, of course, will continue to be the company’s base camp – acting as both the heart and nerve center of its operations. Many of the local farmers and other local purveyors that Ellwood Thompson’s currently works with will supply the new store as well.
The D.C. location was selected because of the overwhelming support from the communities surrounding it. “We walked the community and talked to the people,” says Ryan Youngman of Ellwood Thompson’s. “The overwhelming support we received from residents confirmed this is the perfect place to expand.” The new store is project to open in fall/winter 2009.
In the meantime, the company continues to focus on exciting projects in Richmond. Over the coming months the western landscape of Carytown will change dramatically. Ellwood’s Coffee is slated to open by the end of the year and the expansion of the main store will be completed in stages soon after as not to disrupt the holiday season. Both projects will incorporate inventive landscaping and murals.
