Murry N. DePillars, professor emeritus and former dean of VCU’s School of the Arts, has an exhibit curated by his wife at Richmond’s Pine Camp Arts and Community Center — one of North Richmond’s hidden secrets. DePillars’ exhibit of paintings will remain on display through November 17.
DePillars came to Richmond in 1971 to serve as assistant dean for VCU’s arts school, and was one of the leading figures of Chicago’s 1960s African-American Arts Movement. He was named dean of the School of the Arts in 1976, and retired in 1995. Check out the City of Richmond’s Parks and Recreation website for more details. The Pine Camp Arts & Community Center is located at 4901 Old Brook Road.
