Bike to Work Day is tomorrow!

Join the Mayor! Or…just bike to work like a regular person.

In the spirit of all things transit, the Mayor cordially invites you to hop on your bike and join him as he goes to and fro!

Cut a ribbon first

Meet Mayor Dwight C. Jones at the intersection of Floyd and Morris Street and watch him cut the ribbon on the city’s first Bike/Walk Street. That’s Floyd Avenue, if you’re unaware, and that’s why it’s so difficult to drive on–by design! The stretch from Morris all the way west to Thompson is now a road that, while not technically entirely set aside for pedestrians and cyclists, sure is a lot more friendly to them than the rest of the roads. Think this is all a big pain for you and your car? That’s by design–you’ve got the perfectly speedy Grove Avenue right next door to hurtle your giant automobile down. Floyd Avenue is best to avoid unless you’re powering yourself without benefit of a motor.

Then ride

Discover and then demonstrate to others how blissful a trip down the Bike/Walk Street can be, alongside the Mayor. I sure hope he’ll be wearing his suit because it’s hard to imagine him otherwise.

Then shmooze

Celebrate yourself, bike riding in general, and how far the city has come by drinking coffee with the Mayor himself at 8:45 AM at Ellwood Thompson’s Beet Café. Caffeinated beverages and snacks are on him!

But don’t stop there

There’s still time to participate in Bike Month. We’ve got Dominion Riverrock, a bunch of organized rides, a cycling basics clinic, a scavenger hunt, and–let’s just go ahead and shut this thing down–a taco crawl. Also a lot more!
