RICHMOND, Va. The “Big Heads” of the Visual Arts Center of Richmond (VisArts) will make appearances at two exciting events on May 11 and May 21.

On May 11, 9 AM – Noon, young artists from William Byrd Community House will show off the Big Heads, or capgrossos, that they made during Art After School at VisArts. The Art After School students will wear their creations as they cheer on participants in The Virginia Home’s 4th Annual Walk & Roll 5k.

VisArts welcomed the residents of The Virginia Home earlier this spring when David Ventura and Neus Hosta, artists from Navata, Spain, lead capgrossos workshops at the VisArts as part of a National Endowment for the Arts grant. The 5K Walk & Roll supports The Virginia Home’s mission of enriching the lives of adults living with irreversible physical disabilities. Participants will make 2.5 passes around Shields Lake and Swan Lake, beginning and ending in front of The Virginia Home.

On May 21, 5 – 6 PM, the Fan district will be a site for celebration as students representing all nine area Boys and Girls Clubs and our Art After School partners will march the sidewalks for a Big Head parade in honor of VisArts’ 50th Anniversary.
