Students at A.P. Hill Elementary School in Petersburg were challenged to donate 1,000 canned goods in support of the Salvation Army’s Canned Food Drive in December, 2008. Not only did the students collect 1,000 cans but exceeded it by 517, for a total count of 1,517.
The students were motivated by the graphing of the number of cans by classrooms and a pizza reward for the classroom that brought in the most. Mrs. Mary Barnes’ class collected a total of 179 cans to claim the pizza party celebration. They were also encouraged by the fact that they were helping others in need of assistance. A.P. Hill would also like to thank the parents for their support.
