The World Road Cycling Championships roll into town in September, and Richmond Young Writers plans to celebrate the much-anticipated event with a collaborative art show–but they need words to serve as inspiration!

Writers ages 8 to 17 are invited to submit bicycle-inspired stories and poems to Richmond Young Writers (email them to richmondyoungwriters@gmail.com) by July 31st. From the pool of submissions, 20 winners will be selected to have their work illustrated by local artists.

Writers whose work is selected for the show will meet with their artistic collaborators at artspace on Saturday, August 8th to settle on a concept and joint vision for each piece. The winning pieces and their accompanying illustrations will go on display at Plant Zero September 18th through October 18th. And even if your piece isn’t selected for illustration, don’t worry, your work will still get out there: all writing submissions will be available for guests to read throughout the run of the show.

All work must be typed and must include the writer’s name and age–and the piece’s title, if you have one. No more than 800 words, please! For more information, visit richmondyoungwriters.com.
