The independent film, The Comedy, which features cast and crew with Richmond ties, has found a distributor. Tribeca Film has recently purchased the North American rights.

The film, which follows the exploits of an emotionally-displaced man, debuted at the Sundance Film Festival, and in April it was screened at the Grace Street Theater. The Richmond screening featured a Q/A with the film’s director, Rick Alverson (who was also in the local band, Spokane).

“My hope is that The Comedy may be seen as both a challenging, cautionary tale and an unapologetic immersion in a culture of irony and recreational cruelty many have come to find liberating,” said Rick Alverson. “We’re very happy to be in the competent hands of Tribeca Film and look forward to a partnership that will bring this movie to a wide audience.”

Tribeca Film will give The Comedy an as yet undetermined theatrical release, as well as distribute it via on-demand platforms, such as iTunes, Amazon Watch Instantly, VUDU, and others.
