Children’s Museum of Richmond’s Short Pump Location Hosting Louisa Earthquake Fundraiser

The Children’s Museum of Richmond is teaming up with a local insurance agency to raise funds for Louisa County Schools, which suffered extensive damage in the 5.8 magnitude earthquake that hit central Virginia on August 23, 2011. CMoR will open its doors for this special benefit at both its Central and Short Pump locations on Saturday evening, November 5.

Deep Run Students Hosting “Pink Out” in Support of Breast Cancer

Students at a local high school have organized a fundraiser at a home football game in dedication to finding a cure for breast cancer. Deep Run students will host a “Pink Out” at the October 14th game in support of breast cancer awareness.

5th Annual Step Up for Down Syndrome 5K This Weekend at Short Pump Town Center

The Down Syndrome Association of Greater Richmond is hosting a great event this weekend at Short Pump Town Center. The organization will hold its fifth annual Step Up for Down Syndrome 5K and Family Festival Saturday, October 8th from 8:30 a.m. until noon.

After Year-Long Delay, ACAC Will Soon Break Ground at West Broad Village

After a year-long delay, ACAC’s plans to bring a fitness center to West Broad Village are now back on track. As James Barrett of the Residents of West Broad Village site reports, the company will soon break ground on the facility at the corner of Old Brick Road and Gathering Place, across from the Children’s Museum of Richmond.

Photos: Over 900 Kids Take Part in Short Pump Mile & Express Fun Run

Over 900 youth ran in the third annual Short Pump Mile and Express Fun Run Sunday morning at Short Pump Town Center. The race showed huge growth this year, with greater than 50% growth in runners from last year’s event. Runners from Rivers Edge Elementary School in Glen Allen won $600 for their schools physical fitness program by entering 116 into the race, the most ever by any school.

Construction is now underway on a new elementary school scheduled to open for the 2013-2014 school year. Development on the project, located across from the northwest entrance of Wyndham and the Goochland County line on Pouncey Tract Road, was scheduled to be started back in the spring, but was delayed several months.

Richmond’s Largest Youth Road Race Sprints Into Short Pump October 2nd

Running is a popular activity with adults in the West End of Richmond, but it can be a difficult sport for youth that are still learning and growing, and may not yet be ready to enter a full 5k or 10k race. A great opportunity to test out this growing sport at a more moderate distance is coming up on October 2nd, and will be held outside the Short Pump Town Center.
