This week at Friday Cheers: Kishi Bashi / Lake Street Dive

The sixth edition of Friday Cheers brings Kishi Bashi and Lake Street Dive to the muddy banks of the James. For $5 there’s no reason to miss out!

Can you believe there are only three installments of Friday Cheers left? It seems like only yesterday that we were all super stoked about Shovels & Rope, and now here we are getting ready for Kishi Bashi and Lake Street Dive. As always, things kick off on Brown’s Island at 6:30 PM; tickets are $5, and children under 12 are free. Here’s a quick preview of what to expect this week, and there’s more info on the Facebook event page.

Kishi Bashi

Even if you’ve never heard of Kishi Bashi you’ve probably heard Kishi Bashi. Kishi Bashi is K Ishibashi’s solo project, and he’s currently in the middle of licensing a trillion of his poppy, dancey, exceedingly happy violin-driven songs to companies like Microsoft, Sony, and Smart. That’s not to say he’s some sort of corporate shill–far from it! K Ishibashi’s a violin virtuoso that’s toured with, oh just Regina Spektor–dude’s legit.

Lake Street Dive

So you’ll be down at Friday Cheers, and Lake Street Dive will take the stage. You’ll think nothing of it, and then Rachel Price will start to sing–that’s when everything changes. I’m not kidding, the sounds that come out of that woman are like…a plate of hot sticky buns? I dunno, I’m really struggling to put it into words. Anyway, this jazzy foursome has some incredible covers, great originals, and a sound that I can’t get enough of!
