President Obama to speak at VCU next week

President Obama will kick-off his re-election campaign next week with a rally at VCU. The president is scheduled to speak at the Siegel Center on Saturday, May 5th. The first lady is also scheduled to be in attendance.

NBC 12 reports that President Obama will kick-off his re-election campaign next week with a rally at VCU. The president is scheduled to speak at the Siegel Center on Saturday, May 5th. The first lady is also scheduled to be in attendance.

It is expected that Virginia will play an important role in determining if the president is re-elected in November. During the last presidential campaign, the president earned Virginia’s thirteen electoral votes, the first time the Commonwealth went for a Democratic president since voting for Lyndon Johnson in 1964. Obama will most likely take on former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney.

The president last visited the Richmond area in September during a rally at the University of Richmond.

Update

A representative at the Siegel Center said that venue doors will open at 1:45pm on the day of the event. Tickets to attend are currently unavailable for purchase. However, individuals can register on Barack Obama’s official website to receive updates as to when tickets will be made available.
