Weather! Warmer temperatures on the way
If the low moves out as forecast, Wednesday will be the last day of thick clouds, as the low moves off to the northeast. There’s a small possibility of a scattered shower, but that, along with the cloudiness, should diminish later in the day.
It’s a little small, but no, your eyes aren’t deceiving you. Those are snowmen.
WBIR-TV reported that a light snowfall fell on Clingmans Dome, elevation 6643 feet, early Monday morning. Temperatures struggled to make it out of the 30s in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, where Clingmans Dome is located, and is the highest point within the boundaries of the park.
Yeah, snow. Better there than here.
Thankfully, we won’t be seeing any here just yet. The next two days are looking a little complex, but should steadily improve by the time the weekend arrives. An area of low pressure in the upper level of the atmosphere has been responsible for the continued cloudiness and cool temperatures early this week. It’s currently sitting over northern West Virginia, and will continue to bring cloudiness over the Richmond area until the low moves out later this week.
If the low moves out as forecast, Wednesday will be the last day of thick clouds, as the low moves off to the northeast. There’s a small possibility of a scattered shower, but that, along with the cloudiness, should diminish later in the day. Temperatures will be slightly warmer relative to where they have been this week, reaching the upper 60s, before dropping into the mid 40s overnight.
On Thursday, skies will stay partly to mostly clear as the low moves toward New England. We’ll get to enjoy some more warming, and temperatures will shoot well into the 70s. There’s no chance of rain in sight, but we’ll still have to deal with cool nighttime temperatures, with overnight lows slightly warmer, but still in the upper 40s.
As for this weekend and the Folk Festival, we’re still looking great. Clear skies all weekend, with highs in the upper 70s and lows near 50. It’s going to be an absolutely beautiful October weekend for football and folk music.
