Weather! Weekend forecast update

The chance for much-needed rain sticks around for Saturday, while Sunday brings us more warm, tranquil conditions.

A large area of rain traversed most of central Virginia tonight in advance of a cold front moving east from the Ohio Valley has mostly dissipated at our doorstep. Rain chances will persist into the evening on Saturday, diminishing only as the cold front moves through the area. Cloudiness in advance of the cold front will keep temperatures down, with highs only into the upper 80s. If we see any rain, temperatures may stay depressed even further. The cold front clears the area by Saturday evening, leaving clear skies in its wake. Unfortunately there’s not much actual cold air behind this front, so the actual break in temperatures we’re going to get is small. Low temperatures Saturday night will only fall to near 70.

On Sunday, we’re left with partly cloudy skies as high pressure takes control again. Our break from the 90s is brief; high temperatures on Sunday will climb back into the 90s. Lows Sunday night continue to stay slightly warm, again falling only into the low 70s. Chances for rain on Sunday are very low; most of the moisture and instability needed for any storms or rain showers will be gone with the passage of the front Saturday evening. Tranquil weather prevails for the latter half of the weekend.

Another disturbance will make its way toward the region early next week. I’ll have an update on Monday. Enjoy your weekend!
