They work hard, like as hard as you’d work in a two-day bicycle ride
‘Possums clean your garden of harmful pests and the other things that make you shudder. That seems like a lot of work, but they enjoy doing it! Just like you’d feel during the Governor’s newly announced “RVA to DC” bike ride. It’s 156 miles of hard yet healthy work.

They’re much less likely to have rabies than any other mammal, including you and your dog
But I bet that dog of yours would love or at least possibly tolerate getting dressed up and taken to Easter on Parade this weekend! Also, here are four other things to do, hopefully none of which involve rabies.

Opossum delicacies include snakes, camel crickets, mice, and rats
All of which are actual pests and can be dangerous (or just evil, in the case of camel crickets). It’s a good thing we have much more refined palates, the kinds that enjoy drinking vinegars and lots of new restaurants.

They’re into sharing
You have a garden, they’ll protect it from pests while they grow their adorable young in their pouches. They’re so ugly and fierce-looking (without much follow-through) that other animals tend to stay away, which makes humans their biggest predators. Way to go, humans. You almost don’t deserve the sweet bike share that is coming your way.

Opossums are OK!
Here’s more information. And yesterday was also the anniversary of “OK” becoming a word!
