VIDEO: VCU basketball SEAL Team training

The VCU men’s basketball team spends some quality time with SEAL Team Training.

In what’s become an annual tradition, the VCU men’s basketball team (players, managers, GAs, and coaches, too) spent some quality time with SEAL Team Physical Training to do some pretty intense workouts. Think: early morning, lots of mud, water, carrying heavy items, and generally unpleasant stuff.

I love it! I’m glad it’s not me!

Get excited for the 2014-2015 season, y’all.

Camo fatigues and all this melodramatic US Armed Forces recruiting music?…REALLY?…Remember, this is a college basketball team striving for personal glory — nothing remotely similar to real SEALS and real soldiers fighting and dying for their families’ safety…

  2. Tim, it goes with their “theme song,” No One Goes To War With The Rams.

  3. I’m pretty sure they realize they’re not SEALS. The same thing that people who do daily SEALS training realize that.

Lori – Clearly these VCU players know they aren’t SEALS ( no one is that clueless.) …The problem is that these college-age, scholarship-dependent entertainers auditioning for professional basketball leagues around the globe are doing what they are told by the VCU Athletic Department in a video aimed at “recruiting” season-ticket buyers, nothing more…. Coach Smart — as an educator of young men first and handsomely-paid basketball coach second — should know better!… A video like this, in my opinion, is tasteless, crass and something the SEAL Team Fitness group’s owners (including, I understand, at least one former SEAL) would never stage, film and release to the public since it disrespects real SEALS and the reasons they serve and suffer the way they do!…Rather, given your implied approval that this video is harmless and all in good fun, my larger complaint is that this video is just another illustration of a centuries-old conceit here in the United States, one that has gotten us into deep international trouble dozens of times and cost us tens of thousands of lives throughout our history, namely: War and preparations for it should never be devalued as entertainment. War always claims the lives of hundreds, and often thousands, of soldiers and the innocent (men, women and children). It should never be disrespected the way this nation has with rah-rah ‘Rambo’ movies, paintball games and shoot-em-up video games in which no real blood or authentic tears are ever spilled… And pretending to train for war, piggybacking on the images and widespread popular respect and reverence the American people have for the real suffering and real bloodshed suffered by military units like the SEALS, is NOT something you do to SELL BASKETBALL TICKETS!!

Tim, at first I thought you were a little over the top with your view on this, but I actually kind of agree with you some what.
