According to the Congressional Quarterly Press, Richmond has dropped from number 49th to 99th in terms of crime ranking.

In 2007 we ranked 29th; in 2006, 15th; and in 2005, we ranked 5th.

Even better, the metropolitan area as a whole was ranked #183.

These ranking were based on reported crime rates per 100,000 in six crime categories: murder, rape,
robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, and motor vehicle theft.

    Some serious commendations are in order for both the Richmond PD and the citizens who have decided enough is enough. I know 2008 may have been an anomaly but I hope it’s safe to say that the days of being in the top 10 are over.
