New community news site for The Fan

When you get a chance, head on over and take a look at it. It’s new and they’re still working some kinks out, but it’s sure to be a good addition to hyperlocal coverage of Richmond.

Yikes! It’s uglier than a barrel full of a-holes.

  2. How eloquent of you!

  3. Wow, agreed with Monkeyshines, that design is near terrible.

And do we REALLY need that much hyper local coverage? I mean seriously, lets start putting a blogger on every freaking block to talk about whos eating at what restaurant. I love what RVANews and the community blogs are doing, dont get me wrong, but if were going to have all this stuff, someone has got to do a better job organizing it all.

  4. I mean a Fan community blog isn’t exactly hyper local. A “1200 Block of Franklin Community Blog!!!” would be pretty local.
    “Devil’s Triangle Times.”
“What Are Those Businesses in Those Rainbow-Colored Buildings on Main Street Up To?”
    “THE ‘VELVET’ ROPE”
Those would be local. Although don’t lie to me if you say you wouldn’t read The ‘Velvet’ Rope. I know I would.

  5. Yeah, the design needs a tweak, sure, but I like the content and am adding it to my RSS reader so I never have to see the design ever again! MWA HA HA HA HA! But I will come back.

Still, it’s just getting started so I’m looking forward to all the bells and whistles that can come with it plus the coverage of all the things that happen in the Fan, from VCU to the Boulevard and all points in between.

    Good work, folks.

  6. Whats the difference b/t this and Fan District Hub?

It looks like this one will offer more newsy local content like the other community blogs.

FD Hub has published 10 stories in the past 10 days, but 7 of those were sports and the other three were links to Times-Dispatch articles (http://fdhub.net/2009/). You have to go back to February 25th to see anything like local Fan-centric info that isn’t sports (http://fdhub.net/2009/02/25/).

Fan of the Fan has 7 posts in 5 days (http://fanofthefan.com/2009/), and it is more local focussed. If they can keep this up, it’ll be more akin to Hills & Heights or North Richmond News.

It doesn’t seem like there will be much overlap.

I don’t care which local news website does it, but I would love to know why there have been roads being torn up between kensington and hanover, and between robinson and stafford, pretty much continuously for the last 10 months.

Recently they’ve been confining the road-excavation activities to Kensington, but for all I know they’ll be back on Stuart again next week. Did Douglas Wilder lose a ballpark somewhere beneath the fan, and he’s having the road crews look for it? What’s the deal here?
