John Hughes, we won’t forget about you

John Hughes, the man behind such 80s cinematic gems as “Sixteen Candles,” “The Breakfast Club,” and “Pretty in Pink” (among so many others) passed away today at age 59. He was taking a stroll through Manhattan when he had a heart attack.

The film world didn’t hear much from Hughes once we got through the 90s, but the contributions he made in the 80s equipped an entire generation (and then some) with enough movie quotes and moments to last, well, FOREVER.

Let’s send the gentleman off right. Share your favorite John Hughes movie moments in the comments.

I do have a test today, that wasn’t bullshit. It’s on European Socialism. I mean, really, what’s the point? I’m not European. I don’t plan on being European. So, who gives a crap if they’re Socialists? They could be fascist anarchists, it still wouldn’t change the fact that I don’t own a car.

  3. Screws fall out all the time, the world is an imperfect place.

  4. Hahah @Eric I’ve been saying that all morning. The baby thinks it’s funny.

    Also:

His name is Blane? Oh! That’s a major appliance, that’s not a name!

    Also, also:
Duckie dancing to Try A Little Tenderness makes me so very happy.

  5. Mmm. Mmm. Mmm. What a little asshole.

  6. I can’t believe it took me most of the day to remember that one of my favorite movies, Uncle Buck, was written and directed by Hughes.

“How would you like to spend the next several nights wondering if your crazy, out of work, bum uncle will shave your head while you sleep? See you in the car.”

Let’s not forget the unforgettable (and my personal favorite) Ferris Bueller’s Day Off: “Not that I condone fascism, or any -ism for that matter. -Ism’s in my opinion are not good. A person should not believe in an -ism, he should believe in himself. I quote John Lennon, “I don’t believe in Beatles, I just believe in me.” Good point there. After all, he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. I’d still have to bum rides off people.”

  8. “Oh, he’s very popular Ed. The sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, waistoids, dweebies, dickheads – they all adore him. They think he’s a righteous dude.”
