A major increase in “real-world” responsibilities has severely cut into the time I can devote to the site right now, so I’m in need of a bit of assistance. I’m looking for an additional writer – someone who attends council meetings, district meetings and that sort of thing would be great, but not necessary. If anyone has an interested, email me and I’ll fill you in on the details.

  1. My neighborhood (Byrd Park) shares City Council and School Board reps with some parts of Hills and Heights, but we don’t share a community blog. It’s good to see public calls for civic writers and contributors. Has the site considered an open publishing format? There are people in Byrd Park who might like to play the writer role just across the river for our own region. Any suggestions?

  2. Has the site considered an open publishing format?

From the vitriol and spam that get thrown at the comments sections of these blogs, I’m leery of a completely open publishing system. That said, the Fulton site allows any registered user to post stories and it has gone ok so far. This hasn’t contributed there being any better coverage, though. The site does have a top-level administrator to take care of any problems that come up.

I’ve wondered how to get Byrd Park and Randolph and the like covered. The area south of Cary, west of Oregon Hill, and east of the Boulevard could support a community site. As always, if someone wants to be on point for it, I’d be glad to help set up a site.

  3. It could be called “Cary Me to the River.”

Seriously though, I’d like somewhere to discuss my neighborhood concerns other than my own website. I’m just not willing to be the point person. I’ll talk to a few people and see the right person/people come forward – starting with the neighborhood associations.

  4. The northeast area of the city is underrepresented as well, though there is a site in place that could cover these neighborhoods. If you live in or have contacts in places like Barton Heights, Highland Park, Battery Park or any of the other areas east of Chamberlayne and want to help see this area better represented, put a bug in John’s ear and make something happen.
