Spiders blow out Air Force Falcons, 83-60, improve to 5-2 on the season
The Richmond Spiders shot a season high 55% from three-point range and got scoring contributions from 10 different players in a road non-conference rout of Air Force on Wednesday night.

Terry Allen and Kendall Anthony led a slew of scorers for the Spiders on Wednesday night in Colorado Springs, each with 19 points and combining to shoot 62% from the field. Richmond never once trailed against the Falcons and saw their lead balloon to 25 late in the second half before winning 83-60. Cedrick Lindsay continues his hot scoring streak with 16 points on 5-10 shooting (2-4 from range) and was one assist shy of a double-double. Allen’s career high of 19 points Wednesday night makes him Richmond’s second highest scorer this season, averaging 11.6 points per game–slightly ahead of Anthony’s 11.4 points per game average. With 7.4 rebounds per game, Allen remains the Spiders’ leading rebounder.
The previous two games–against North Carolina and Fairfield–saw Richmond slowly improve their three-point shooting while Wednesday night’s performance was, by far, their best effort from beyond the arc (55%) this season. The Spiders also tied their season high mark in steals (10), forcing the Falcons into 15 total turnovers and scoring 22 points off of those miscues. The Spiders committed only eight turnovers throughout Wednesday’s contest, matching their season lows against Hofstra and Minnesota.
Wednesday night’s game against Air Force was Richmond’s first true road test of the season, with last weekend’s Hall of Fame Tipoff Tournament in Connecticut taking place on a neutral court. The Falcons have struggled so far this season, falling to 3-3 after losing to the Spiders and proved to be only a minor roadblock on the way to a Spider victory. But Richmond’s aggressive offense, vastly improved shooting touch from the perimeter, and Terry Allen’s continued progression as a viable scoring threat alongside Cedrick Lindsay and Kendall Anthony all come as promising characteristics of a team that will be facing tough road stretches throughout December and January.

Kendall Anthony and Terry Allen both led all scorers Wednesday night with 19 points a piece, but Anthony did it in 26 minutes as opposed to Allen’s 30. Anthony also showed continued improvement on his three-point jumper, hitting 5-7 against the Falcons and raising his season average to 35.6%. Despite Anthony getting out to dismal start from beyond the arc early in the season, he has remained confident and continues to average 6.4 three point attempts per game. Look for Anthony to continue playing aggressive basketball, taking shots from the perimeter, and getting to the basket with his superior and low-to-the-ground quickness.
LOOKING FORWARD
The Spiders will welcome in-state foe James Madison (2-5) to the Robins Center Saturday evening at 6:00 PM. Last year, Richmond escaped Harrisonburg with a narrow 83-82 overtime victory with five players scoring in double figures. The game can be viewed locally on CBS Sports and heard on ESPN 950.
